The top 20 hotels for 2009 as determined by customers has been unveiled by TravelRepublic.co.uk.
There are more than 165,000 independent hotel reviews on the site with hundreds more being added every day.
But clients can only post a review once they have made a booking and returned home.
When reviewing a hotel, customers are asked to rate their experience from one (terrible) to five (excellent).
To be eligible a hotel needed to receive at least 25 reviews during the year.
