TSA braced for busiest ever Thanksgiving
TSA checkpoints around the country are prepping for their busiest ever Thanksgiving travel period while possible worsening weather could impact some flights over the next few days.
The AAA is predicting 80 million Americans will travel by car or air for the holidays starting today through Monday.
The TSA is forecasting 18.3 million people flying home or going on vacation through Monday, December 2.
The agency has been spending the past week preparing travelers with updates on what can and cannot be packed in carry-on bags.
Those typical Thanksgiving items cranberry sauce, gravy, jams and maple syrup are classed as liquids and have strict limits.
TSA Administrator David Pekoske said: “The 10 busiest travel days in TSA’s history have all occurred in 2024, and we anticipate that trend to continue.”
“We have optimized staffing and will do our best to maintain our wait time standards: less than 10 minutes for TSA PreCheck lanes and less than 30 minutes for standard screening lanes.”
The AAA says Thanksgiving airfares have risen an average 3% this year for domestic Thanksgiving flights and the number of flight bookings is similar to 2023.
However, international flight bookings are up by nearly a quarter this year.
