A Florida man’s attempt to take a military grade rocket-propelled grenade launcher home on a flight was understandably shot down at TSA security screening.
The St Augustine resident somehow thought it was OK to travel with the item in a checked bag.
The TSA said it set off a red flag as the bag passed through screening at Lehigh Valley Airport in Allentown, PA.
The grenade launcher was placed in the bag dismantled in several parts and was eventually found to be inert.
"When assembled, the launcher was determined to be non-functioning and the grenade an inert replica. Thank goodness!" said TSA public affairs rep Lisa Farbstein.
Contrary to the passenger’s belief, no realistic or replica weapons are permitted to be brought on to airplanes," a TSA statement said.
The man was released and permitted to catch his flight to Orlando but the items were confiscated.
