TSA screener held on drug smuggling charges

Monday, 21 December 20153 min read
Federal charges have been filed against a Transportation Security Administration screener at Oakland Airport for her part in an organized scheme to smuggle marijuana through the airport.
Kiana Scott Clark, 28, of San Mateo has been accused of abusing her position to facilitate the movement of large quantities of pot undetected through security screening over a two year period.
Clark has been charged with conspiring to distribute controlled substances and conspiring to obstruct, impede, and interfere with TSA functions.
If convicted, Clark could face a sentence of up to 55 years in federal prison and fines of up to $5.7 million.
Federal prosecutors allege Clark informed co-conspirators in advance which TSA screening machine she would be operating, and then turned a blind eye to the illicit contraband, allowing them to pass through undetected.
It is alleged more 100 kilograms of marijuana had passed through the airport from September 2013 through October 2015.
The pot was destined for various destinations throughout the country.
