TSA unveils fines for passengers refusing to wear masks

Thursday, 08 Feb, 2021 0

The Transportation Security Administration has unveiled how much travelers will be fined for refusing to wear masks.

They will be fined from $250 to $1,500 if refusing to don masks on aircraft and at airports, and on other public transport such as trains and buses.

The higher range will be for repeat offenders while ‘a sanction amount that falls outside these ranges’ could be levied depending on the circumstances.

President Joe Biden signed an executive order mandating masks on transport systems during his first week in office.

The TSA will implement the mask order at airports and other transportation hubs it serves.

"TSA will fully comply with the President’s Executive Orders, CDC guidance and the DHS National Emergency determination to ensure healthy and secure travel across all transportation sectors," said Darby LaJoye, Senior Official as interim TSA Administrator.

It exempts children under two years old and people with a disability or medical exemption.

The mask mandate is effective until at least 11 May 2021.
