TUI chief executive Peter Long has publicly congratulated Thomas Cook on its financial turnaround and says he welcomes the competition.
At an analysts briefing this morning, Long was asked if he was concerned about recent improvements at Thomas Cook.
In response, he said Cook’s new management team had done a "fantastic job" in rehabilitating and refinancing the company.
"Am I concerned about the competition? No I am not," he added. "Do I think that it’s good that we have a strong competitor? Yes I do.
"I think it’s important to have a healthy industry and that means having healthy competition."
TUI released its third quarter results today, showing it is outperforming the market in the UK with bookings up by 4%.
