Turkey, Poland taken off UK travel corridor list

Turkey has been removed from the UK’s travel corridor list, leaving travellers with a dwindling number of holiday options.

Turkey was removed along with Poland and the small Caribbean islands of Bonaire, St Eustatius and Saba, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps announced in the latest update.

"The latest data indicates we need to remove Turkey, Poland, and Bonaire, St Eustatius and Saba from the #TravelCorridor list this week," Shapps tweeted.

The removal of Turkey is a huge blow for holidaymakers .

Shapps reiterated that increased penalties will be imposed on anyone avoiding self-isolation with fines payable of up to £10,000 for repeat offenders, from Friday 2 October.

Shapps also reminded travellers to complete a Passenger Locator Form before returning to the UK.

The Department for Transport has said the Turkish Health Ministry is calculating new Covid-19 cases differently from organisations such as the WHO.

Its status was ‘updated to reflect the likely impact of this on the data for incidence and test positivity rates,’ it said.
