TWO NEW EUROPEAN AIRLINES CHOOSE AMADEUS TO DISTRIBUTE VIA London: January 16, 2004: Amadeus has kicked off the New Year by adding two new carriers for distribution through its system. Travel agencies connected to Amadeus in the UK and other European markets served by duo and Jetmagic will now be able to sell seats on both carriers via the Amadeus GDS. Carriers which utilise the Internet for bookings are increasingly looking to Amadeus as an additional distribution channel to reach travel agents in order to maximise their revenue and the commercial penetration they can achieve beyond their home markets. duo and Jetmagic are part of a new wave of carriers, which offer value-for-money fares but without skimping on service. duo was created from a management buy-out of British carrier Maersk Air Ltd in June 2003. The airline operates out of Birmingham and Edinburgh delivering “‘business-class service at economy prices” to 14 destinations across Europe, with more to be announced shortly. Patrick Edmond, Director of Strategy at duo said, “duo’s mission is to offer customers a choice, whether it’s a choice of convenient flights from their local airport, a choice of good-value fares, or a choice of complimentary meals and drinks on board. And now, thanks to Amadeus, we’re able to offer our customers a wider choice of booking channels as well.” Jetmagic is based in Cork, Ireland and has enjoyed rapid expansion throughout 2003. The airline now has an extensive European route network serving 12 destinations from Cork at value-for-money prices and promises to “put the enjoyment back into flying”. Carol Glynn, Revenue Management and Commercial Planning Manager at Jetmagic said, “Jetmagic is entering Amadeus to allow us to reach a wider audience of travel agents than is possible through our booking system alone.” Peter Cacioppo, Director of Sales at Amadeus UK, said “The addition of these two new airlines further strengthens our air offering. While duo and Jetmagic can be booked using the Internet, most travel agents prefer the ease with which Amadeus enables them to view flight schedules, availability and fares in a fast, streamlined and reliable manner. Another advantage over booking via public websites is that booking information in Amadeus can automatically be transferred to back-office systems. The travelling public face a bewildering array of airlines bookable via the Internet and many consumers prefer to simplify matters by relying on the expertise and advice of their travel agent. By providing access to more than 450 carriers in our system, agents using Amadeus are able to offer their customers instant information and access to the widest possible choice of airline schedules and fares.”
