Uber, Lyft win gig economy legal victory
A court ruled in favor of ride hailing firms Uber and Lyft over the contentious issue of gig economy contractor working.
They overturned a previous California ruling against ‘Prop 22’, affording drivers conventional workers’ rights like sick leave.
The appeals court ruling allows Uber and Lyft workers to still be treated as independent contractors without additional salaried benefits.
Uber called it ‘a victory for app-based workers and millions of Californians.’
Lyft said it ‘protects the independence that drivers value.’
