UK added to US ‘Do not Travel’ list

Tuesday, 23 Apr, 2021 0

The UK was added to the US State Department’s ‘Do Not Travel’ list.

The level 4 advisory cites a "high level of Covid-19′ and warns Americans not to travel there.

The UK was just one of 116 countries at the highest advisory level but it doesn’t mean the Covid situation is deteriorating.

The State Department re-evaluated all countries to bring it in line with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) own advisory system which tends to be more stringent.

The CDC uses ‘existing epidemiological assessments’ to grade the risk level for each country.

As well as the UK, Mexico, Canada, France, Germany and Israel were upgraded to level 4.

About 80% of all countries are now designated high risk.

UK Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said this week he was having ‘regular’ discussions with US officials over reopening scheduled air links.
