UK airlines warn of dangers of flying with Samsung mobiles
Airlines flying to and from the UK are warning passengers not to switch on or charge the new Samsung Galaxy Note 7 mobiles inflight.
The warning comes after dozens of incidents where the new phones have caught fire.
Samsung recalled the Galaxy Note 7 earlier this month, but UK mobile operators only began receiving replacement handsets on September 19, so airlines are concerned some passengers might still be travelling with faulty ones.
According to the Independent, pilots on Thomas Cook Airlines and Norwegian have both made onboard announcements asking for passengers with the Galaxy Note 7 to alert the crew.
Passengers are then asked not to use or charge the phones onboard.
A number of airlines have already banned the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 from checked in luggage and they are asking passengers not the charge them onboard.
Earlier this month, the US Federal Aviation Administration directive ‘strongly advising’ passengers not to use their Note 7 phones during flights, or place in checked-in bags.
