UK holidaymakers going further afield
Egypt is becoming one of the top holiday destinations investigated by holidaymakers from the UK and Ireland, according to Cheapflights.com. The African country topped the list of holiday destinations searched in October, according to the number of page impressions recorded on Cheapflights.com in October. Also in the top ten were Goa (6th), Mexico (9th) and Thailand (10th). Cheapflights chief executive, David Soskins said destinations like Thailand and Mexico would have been too expensive for the majority of holidaymakers a few years ago. While the results show Brits are holidaying further afield, they are also looking to take shorter breaks at home. According to Cheapflights, the top ten destinations searched for accommodation in October include three UK cities. London is top, but the big surprise was Blackpool in seventh, ahead of Prague, Edinburgh and Rome. These figures bode well for VisitBritain, which has run three domestic campaigns since its inception in April, encouraging Brits to take breaks in England. In a statement commenting on the results, Cheapflights said: “The popularity of Blackpool can be attributed to more people taking domestic breaks due to the fantastic autumn weather and the start of the Blackpool illuminations in September.” The destinations searched for flights and shortbreaks reflect the typical destinations popular for shortbreaks at this time of year. In the top ten for October were London, New York, Dublin, Amsterdam and Prague.
