UKinbound calls for new approach to APD campaign

UKinbound is looking at new ways to tackle the Government over rising Air Passenger Duty.

The association’s chief executive Mary Rance said it was "changing its course and looking at the issue from new angles" to encourage the Government to take notice.

"Indications within the industry suggest that our international visitors are amending their itineraries to reduce the time spent in the UK in order to depart from Europe and thus overcome this tax themselves.

"A new approach is required in order to attract Government’s attention on this issue before it’s too late and our international visitors decide to remove the UK from their itineraries altogether.

"We will commission further research and continue to challenge the effects APD has on our industry. Now more than ever, a collaborative approach is required to ensure our voice is heard."

Her words came after a TravelMole Poll on APD showed 98% of the 15,670 subscribers who responded said it was time to ‘get on and accept’ the unchanged tax.

The results were seen as a blow to the industry-wide campaign against the air tax.

"Now is not the time to give up on this fight and now is certainly not the time for the industry to be seen to have accepted this sleuth tax as a fait accompli," said Advantage Travel Centres leisure director Julia Lo Bue-Said.

"We may have no choice right now but the industry cannot be seen as a soft touch and the lobbying must continue and we must not give up, the fight must go on™

ABTA also urged the travel trade not to give up.

"This is a tough fight but the lobbying will continue and the campaign will go on," it said.
