United Airlines says it will trim some of its management teams as part of its company-wide restructuring program.
"While we don’t have an exact figure now, a small number of our management team will be affected by reductions," United spokeswoman Megan McCarthy said.
However she said there would be no job cuts to frontline teams, such as flight crew, customer-service and gate agents.
United aims to trim costs and boost efficiency across a number of business units as it looks to keep pace with no 2 carrier Delta Air Lines.
New improved labor contracts for some workers and lower average airfares will start to take a bite out of the bottom line, the carrier said last year.
Referring to the management restructuring, Executive Vice President Mike Bonds addressed employees in a letter: "Our focus is to move through this process as quickly as possible, while ensuring that we go through each decision with a lot of thought, respect and care."
