United Airlines Launches Eco-Skies Alliance
United Airlines wants to turn trash into cleaner jet fuel with the help of other major corporations. It has partnered with firms including Nike Inc and Siemens AG in the ‘Eco-Skies Alliance’ to fund the use low-carbon sustainable fuel made from trash.
It will use about 3.4 million gallons. While only a fraction of the total jet fuel it consumes annually, it triples the one million gallons of sustainable fuel it uses on average each year.
There are a dozen partners contributing to the Eco-Skies Alliance. Like many major airlines United is committed to cutting all net carbon emissions from aviation fuel by 2050.
