United Airlines has moved quickly to end the possibility of a damaging, drawn out legal battle over the notorious dragging case.
It has settled with Dr. David Dao, the Kentucky man who was violently removed from a flight earlier this month.
"We are pleased to report that United and Dr. Dao have reached an amicable resolution of the unfortunate incident that occurred aboard flight 3411. We look forward to implementing the improvements we have announced, which will put our customers at the center of everything we do," a statement from United said.
News of the settlement came the same day United agreed to implement new policies over its handling of overbooked passengers.
Dao’s attorney, Thomas Demetrio said negotiations over the settlement were ‘amicable’ and terms will remain confidential.
"Dr. Dao has become the unintended champion for the adopting of changes which will certainly help improve the lives of literally millions of travelers," Demetrio said.
"I sincerely hope that all other airlines make similar changes and follow United’s lead in helping to improve the passenger flying experience."
"Both Dr. Dao and I applaud United for promptly addressing the many issues that have plagued passenger satisfaction in the arena of airline customer service."
Dao suffered concussion, a broken nose and two missing teeth after being forcibly dragged off the plane by Chicago aviation cops.
Demetrio said Dao has no plans to file a lawsuit against the city of Chicago or the three officers of the Chicago Department of Aviation who were seen dragging him off the plane.
"No one else in the entire world is going to be sued by Dr. Dao," the attorney said.
"United has stepped up to the plate and hit a home run."
