United Airlines taps Apple Inc for San Francisco terminal modernization
United Airlines is tapping Apple Inc to help modernize operations at its San Francisco hub.
The companies are in talks to collaborate on updating United’s terminal facilities but few details have been revealed.
"The Apple team in San Francisco has been in our baggage hold areas, customer service and the lobbies," said Linda Jojo, United’s executive vice president, who acknowledged she was being ‘deliberately vague.’
It is counting on a partnership to help ‘transform the way the airport experience is going to look’ United said.
Apple is among United’s biggest customers, spending $150 million on airfares annually, including about 50 business class seats a day from San Francisco to Shanghai.
"They fly us a lot. We’re going to deepen that partnership," said Jojo.
In turn, United has spent big with Apple, buying more than 100,000 Apple devices for employees.
Jojo was speaking at the #UnitedFlightPlan media presentation.
United also announced details of a new Star Wars-themed aircraft, as well as a Star Wars-themed safety video and business class amenity kit.
