United Airlines wants to resume China flights
United Airlines plans to restart flights to China as early as next month.
It is aiming to start four flights to three Chinese cities – Beijing, Chengdu, and Shanghai in June, according to Forbes.
It cites an internal employee memo that will see the airline ‘pencil in four China routes in the June schedule.’
China is a key market for United, which at its peak had one of the most extensive route networks to Greater China of any US carrier.
However it was badly burnt by the Hong Kong protests last year and now the Covid-19 pandemic which originated in the city of Wuhan.
Its current schedule is about 90% down on normal levels.
China is still trying to combat the spread of imported cases of Covid-19 and has strict measures in place to limit this.
Foreign airlines are currently only permitted to fly once a week to China on one route only.
All foreign nationals are still banned from entering the country.
