Financially stricken United Airlines will not implement the $100 fee it planned to charge US customers on non-refundable tickets for same-day standby flights from next year.
The airline, which recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, said it had changed its mind because it had been listening to the needs of customers.
The decision, which applies to United and its subsidiary United Express, could pressure other US network carriers who already implemented such a fee or plan to do so from January 1.
These include American, Continental, Delta and US Airways.
