United orders Airbus long range jets

Wednesday, 04 Dec, 2019 0

United Airlines has confirmed an order for 50 Airbus A321XLR planes which will be used to replace its aging Boeing 757-200s.

United said it will use the new extra-long range jets on transatlantic services out of its East Coast hubs from 2024.

The order is worth about $7 billion at list prices.

"The new Airbus A321XLR aircraft is an ideal one-for-one replacement for the older, less-efficient aircraft currently operating between some of the most vital cities in our intercontinental network," United’s chief commercial officer Andrew Nocella, said in a statement

United said it plans to push back its existing order of Airbus A350 jets to 2027 ‘to better align with the carrier’s operational needs.’

American Airlines and JetBlue have already ordered the Airbus XLR which is the European plane maker’s longest range single aisle jet.

United currently operates about 180 Airbus A319 and A320 jets.
