Universal Orlando closing hotels - TravelMole

Universal Orlando closing hotels

Saturday, 17 Aug, 2020 0

Universal Orlando is closing two hotels indefinitely from this week.

From 21 August Sapphire Falls and Aventura hotels will temporarily close due to the Covid-19 downturn, with no definite reopening date yet.

That leaves just half of Universal’s eight hotels open, as Portofino Bay and Endless Summer – Dockside have not opened since the pandemic shut down the theme park in March.

Guests with bookings for Sapphire Falls and Aventura will be re-accommodated in the remaining hotels Endless Summer – Surfside Inn & Suites, Cabana Bay, Loews Royal Pacific, or Hard Rock Hotel.

The closures will enable Loews to ‘consolidate our hotel operations as we manage through current conditions.’

Loews operates all Universal Orlando’s hotels.

While park attendance has remained fairly steady under social distancing protocols, a high number of visitors are local due to strict rules on out-of-state travelers returning home after visiting Florida.

That means Universal is struggling to fill hotel rooms, despite deep discounts.
