Unruly stag party forces Ryanair flight to divert to Berlin
Six passengers face fines of more than £19,000 each after they allegedly forced a Ryanair flight to make an unscheduled landing in Berlin due to their drunken behaviour onboard.
The six men were part of a group of 12 flying from Luton to Bratislava in Slovakia for a stag weekend
Trouble broke out onboard when the crew allegedly refused to serve the men any more alcohol.
The pilot decided to divert the aircraft, with 170 passengers on board, to Berlin, where six of the group were arrested
Local police said the six Britons, aged between 25 and 28, were met by officers upon landing at Schoenefeld airport on Friday evening.
They were taken into custody and but were later released, however, they could each be fined up to 25,000 euros (£19,700) for breaking Article 20 of Germany’s Aviation Security Act. They could also face a civil claim from Ryanair.
A statement from Ryanair said: "We will not tolerate unruly or disruptive behaviour at any time and the safety and comfort of our customers, crew and aircraft is our number one priority. This is now a matter for local police."
