US citizens are being secretly monitored by federal air marshals
A TSA internal communication has revealed that US travelers have been secretly monitored under a domestic surveillance program for years.
The ‘Quiet Skies’ program requires federal air marshals to follow targeted US citizens during their air travel even though they are not under investigation by any agency and are not in the Terrorist Screening Data Base.
The Boston Globe reports the program has been criticized by some air marshals who feel it takes up precious resources monitoring people who pose no real threat.
They say it is time consuming and their limited resources would be better focused elsewhere.
In a response to the Globe, the TSA wouldn’t confirm the existence of the program.
Releasing any information ‘would make passengers less safe,’ according to spokesman James Gregory.
The Globe reports thousands of Americans have apparently been secretly monitored in airports and on flights across the country.
