US planes hit by gunfire in Haiti
Two US aircraft were struck by gunfire in Haiti as flights at Port-au-Prince Airport were suspended.
A Spirit Airlines plane was hit by gunfire, leading to ‘minor injuries’ to one crew member.
The Spirt flight was diverted to the Dominican Republic.
A JetBlue plane was also later found to have a bullet hole.
Haitian authorities suspended flights in and out of the airport due to an increase in gang violence.
The Spirit Airlines jet has been taken out of service.
JetBlue and American Airlines scheduled flights to Haiti are suspended.
JetBlue said it won’t operate any Haiti flights until at least December 2.
The current NOTAM restrictions at Port au Prince are effective until November 18.
“We are actively investigating this incident in collaboration with relevant authorities,” JetBlue said.
The Haiti violence came as a new Prime Minister was sworn in.
