A US tourist is being held by authorities in Israel after an apparent Indiana Jones style escapade below the streets of Jerusalem.
According to reports, police believe the 19-year-old tourist, who has not been named, was on the look out for ‘mythical buried treasure’ in Zedekiah’s Cave, known as Solomon’s Quarries.
The tourist was found after spending the night in the cave.
Authorities found evidence of digging and limestone rocks were discovered in his backpack.
The cave system covers a five-acre area beneath the Muslim quarter and is thought to date back to the sixth century BC.
It is also an important ceremonial site for Freemasons.
