US Travel agents say Romagna we adore
Unexpected, authentic, sweet, awesome and very, very green was the verdict of a group of US travel agents after an amazing FAM visit
A group of travel agents were recently blown away by Romagna’s charms on a recent visit. Agents from Indiana and Georgia USA were lucky enough to experience just a little of Romagna’s legendary hospitality – and they were blown away by the warmth, fun and sheer surprising-ness of this unknown and untouristy destination in the heart of Italy.
The first surprise that the travel agents encountered was the quality of hospitality. They stayed at a authentic relais (the Relais Villa Roncuzzi close to Ravenna where they first experienced the joy of freshly-made pasta with a local rare-breed pork sauce, stayed in superb accommodation in the art-gallery hotel and tried the local sweet dessert wine with home made biscuits.
Next the group learned to make the pasta themselves at the "Best Cookery School in Italy" after which they enjoyed not only their own creations but also a variety of delicious local delicacies.
Later they visited the wine-centre of Bertinoro with its hospitality column and tasted great local wines in just one of its historic vineyards – the Fattoria Paradiso http://www.fattoriaparadiso.it/
Amazing Ravenna with its mosaics was another visit and the Venetian fishing port of Cesenatico where the group strolled for a gelato in Leonardo da Vinci’s beautiful port-canal.
A full day was spent in Longiano, where the group stayed at the Allogio San Girolamo a lovely hillside agriturismo with sensational views. One of Italy’s jewel-box tiny theatres was visited and Longiano’s soaring medieval castle art-gallery .
In Longiano too, they tasted superb olive oils produced now by the 17th generation of the Turchi family that had lived on the grove for over 500 years and they tasted exceptional wines at a new vineyard on the other side of the valley – the Villa Venti
And after a day of excitement – they chilled out in one of Romagna’s famous hot thermal baths – the Fratta Terme
Sensationally good local food and wine was enjoyed at the Michelin-rated Dei Cantoni and a truly extraordinarily-good celebration meal was created and served by the young award-winning chef at the family-owned three star Hotel Anastasi
What would a visit to Romagna be without a taste of the world-famous Piadina? Where better to taste the best than at Luana’s Green Tourism awarded all-organic Piadineria? Delicious!
And Romagna’s green tourism charms (the Hotel Anastasi and the Hotel Luxor are just two is of a wonderful crop) were visited and enjoyed.
And the cherry in the cake was left for the travel agents to enjoy on their last night – the Hotel Luxor in Milano Marittima is all about pampering guests in a boutique and stylish environment – luxury that truly makes you smile!
A souvenir video was made of just one day’s experiences by talented local camera woman director Sara Canducci. See it HERE
