Venice cracks down on overtourism
Venice has unveiled measures it plans to implement to curb rampant overtourism. It will introduce limitations on the number of people allowed into Venice. Visitors must book a €5 tickets online to gain entry.
"The aim is to discourage hit-and-run tourism, arriving in one day and leaving in the same day, tiring and stressing the city, said Simone Venturini, deputy mayor for tourism. Pre-pandemic up to100,000 tourists visited the city daily.
Hundreds of cameras and mobile phone tracking will be used to manage the flow of visitors.
