VietJet official detained in Covid flight bribery case
A VietJet senior department head is one of five more people suspected of bribery over Covid-19 repatriation flights.
The bribery scandal has already convicted dozens of people including senior government officials.
Nguyen Manh Cuong, 46, head of VietJe’s e-commerce department was placed on house arrest pending further investigations.
Also put on house arrest was a former deputy head of the Aviation Transport Department and a director of the Top Agent Japan travel firm.
In July, 54 people were sentenced for facilitating or accepting bribes for repatriation flights back to Vietnam during Covid.
Four top government officials were even given life sentences for bribery and abuse of power.
Prosecutors estimated about $6.7 million changed hands in bribes to facilitate the repatriation flights.
