Budget carrier VietJet plans to start direct flights to India for the first time soon.
The airline will operate flights to New Delhi from Ho Chi Minh City four times a week which will be the only direct service linking the two countries.
VietJet says there is huge potential from India not only the fast growing outbound tourism market but the lack of direct competition on the new route.
Travellers flying from HCMC currently need to transit at air hubs such as Singapore, KL or Bangkok for onward flights to India.
The route was unveiled this month in the presence of the Vietnamese president during an India-Vietnam business summit.
That event was held to mark the 45th anniversary of Vietnam-India diplomatic relations.
The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism says Inbound arrivals from India grew 30% last year to 85,000.
That is expected to rise further after Vietnam introduced e-visa access for Indian nationals earlier this year.
VietJet also last week announced a new route from HCMC to Brisbane, which will take-off sometime in 2019.
VietJet will also become the first carrier to operate HCMC-Brisbane flights.
