Vinci Airports is taking a majority stake in Edinburgh Airport.

The 50.01% stake will cost £1.27 billion.

Seller Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) will retain the remaining 49.99% stake.

Under terms of the deal, GIP and Vinci will jointly fund the airport’s investment and development through a long-term strategic partnership.

There is a similar ownership structure with the two companies at London Gatwick Airport

Edinburgh Airport’s CEO Gordon Dewar and chairman, Sir John Elvidge will remain in their positions.

“We are excited to partner with Vinci, with whom we have a strong and productive strategic relationship, to continue to support Edinburgh Airport’s future growth,” said Bayo Ogunlesi, GIP chairman and CEO.

“We remain committed to providing high-quality service to passengers.”

Edinburgh is Scotland’s busiest airport and the sixth in the UK.

Airlines offer flights to more than 150 destinations.

The transaction is expected to close in mid-2024.
