Virgin America, Starwood Preferred Guest announce loyalty partnership

Two major names in travel, both of which are soon about to be acquired, have announced a loyalty program partnership.

Virgin America has teamed up with Starwood Preferred Guest, offering more travel options for their respective loyalty members.

SPG members can transfer Starpoints into Virgin’s Elevate points at a 1-to-1 ratio, while Elevate program members will accrue two points for every dollar spent on a qualifying Starwood hotel stay.

"We’re thrilled to announce our new loyalty partnership with Starwood Preferred Guest. Both our brands are known for providing fresh, modern and upscale travel experiences and Starwood properties will be tremendously popular with our discerning flyers," said Stuart Dinnis, director of loyalty at Virgin America.

To kick off the alliance, which starts immediately, the two companies have joined forces to launch two ‘SPG Moments’ offers.

SPG members can bid on inclusive travel packages to Maui and Honolulu flying Virgin from the West Coast with a four-night stay at Starwood’s Westin Maui or Sheraton Waikiki.

"This new partnership will enable SPG and Virgin America to extend loyalty outside of our hotels and beyond the window seat by giving our members transfer benefits and earning power," said Dana Rosenberg, vice president, global partnerships at Starwood.
