Virgin Hotels has announced its first foray on the West Coast with a new-build hotel planned for downtown Palm Springs.
The 150 room property will debut in late 2018, Virgin said, and will feature the brand’s signature Commons Club, restaurants and bars, a rooftop terrace and pool.
Palm Springs architect Chris Pardo is designing the hotel, which is being overseen by Wessman Development.
"Opening a property in California has been on our wish-list since day one, and as Palm Springs has grown beyond its reputation of a retreat for Californians, we knew it was the perfect location for a Virgin Hotel," said Virgin Hotels CEO Raul Leal.
In addition to the hotel’s interior amenities, an outdoor event space will be constructed in front of the nearby Palm Springs Art Museum offering hotel guests complimentary VIP access to art performances an movie screenings.
"We are of course delighted that a world class luxury brand such as Virgin Hotels is interested in coming to Palm Springs. It would be a great addition to our downtown," said Palm Springs mayor Robert Moon, however he said full planning permission has not yet been granted.
Palm Springs will become Virgin’s fifth US location.
Virgin Hotels Chicago is the first to open, while properties are in development in Nashville, Dallas and New York City.
