A Virgin Atlantic flight to New York was forced to turn around mid-flight after discovering one of the pilots was not fully trained. The error was discovered about 30 minutes into the flight.
The co-pilot was then replaced. It emerged the fully licensed and qualified pilot had not completed the ‘final assessment flight’ which is required by the airline.
Virgin said it was only a ‘rostering error’ and the flight was turned around to ensure ‘full compliance’ of its protocols.
