Virgin passengers stranded in New York snow storm

Wednesday, 28 January 20153 min read

Airlines have resumed normal flying schedules to the US today following this week’s snow storm that left passengers on a Virgin flight stranded overnight at JFK airport.

Virgin said VS004 was due to depart on Monday evening when a passenger required urgent medical attention, forcing it to return to the terminal.

"Subsequently we de-iced the aircraft again and unfortunately it then developed a minor technical issue," said a spokeswoman.

"Once this issue had been rectified, unfortunately the bad weather combined with the cabin crew running out of hours meant the aircraft was unable to take off.

"Due to the severe weather in the region, there was a road travel ban and therefore customers were unable to leave the airport."

As a result, passengers were forced to bed down at the airport, with Virgin handing out meal vouchers and blankets.

All passengers were re-accommodated on a flight on yesterday and have now landed back into the UK, said Virgin.

"We would like to thank our passengers for their patience and apologise for the inconvenience caused to their journey," added the spokeswoman.

Both Virgin and British Airways said they were operating normal schedules to the US today.
