Visiting the world’s murder capital

Thursday, 04 Jan, 2006 0

Jamaica may have become the murder capital of the world, but that does not seem to have diminished its popularity.

The Caribbean island nation had 1,600 murders last year, or about five a day, says the government.

“Considering that tourism is a mainstay for the economies of many Caribbean islands, the latest figures will not be welcome,” said Caribbean Travel News.

The Caribbean last year also faced various vicious hurricanes.

Despite that, however, tourism officials said they expect Jamaica to continue its aggressive drive to put itself as the No. 1 choice for UK visitors.

They said tourism is also expected to be on the rise this year.
