Voyager of the Seas heading for Europe
Royal Caribbean International is to deploy one of its Voyager-class ships in Europe next summer.
Reports from the US say the company is to offer seven-day cruises from Barcelona on 3,000-plus passenger Voyager of the Seas.
Voyager entered service in 1999 and at 140,000-tons was the largest cruise ship afloat before Cunard launched Queen Mary 2.
Royal Caribbean now operates five Voyager-class vessels, mainly sailing in the Caribbean and to Bermuda.
The cruise industry has been rife with speculation for some time that the company would be stepping up competition in the Mediterranean by positioning one of the Voyager-class ships in the region for 2006.
Features on Voyage of the Seas include an ice rink, rock climbing wall, a four-deck high internal promenade and nine-hole golf course.
The move to increase capacity in Europe next year comes as Royal Caribbean launched its first cruises from Southampton this week on Legend of the Seas and confirmed onboard details of its new mega ship Freedom of the Seas.
