The Walt Disney Co has announced Disneyland Resort chief Michael Colglazier will become the company’s new head of Asia parks.

Effective March 5, Colglazier will oversee all operations and development for its three Asia locations at Hong Kong Disneyland, two Tokyo Disneyland parks and Shanghai Disney Resort as president and managing director, Asia Pacific.

He replaces long serving Bill Ernest who recently announced his retirement.

"I am tremendously excited to join our teams in Asia, where our growth opportunities are diverse and endless," Colglazier said.

Colglazier has been president of the Disneyland Resort for the past five years, responsible for a workforce of 30,000 cast members.

That position will be filled by Josh D’Amaro, who was most recently senior vice president at Walt Disney World Resort.
