Walt Disney World hotels update room security policy

Tuesday, 26 December 20173 min read

Walt Disney World is changing hotel room security policy at some resorts.

The small but significant change will see the scrapping of the ‘Do Not Disturb’ signs and instead replaced with ‘Room Occupied.’

This will start at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Polynesian Village Resort and Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, with others to likely follow in the coming weeks.

A hotel employee will be required to enter the room at least once every day, even when housekeeping isn’t required.

"The hotel and its staff reserve the right to enter your room for any purposes including, but not limited to, performing maintenance and repairs or checking on the safety and security of guests and property," Disney says in its guest information pack.

This will be enforced now, in light of the deadly mass shooting from a Las Vegas hotel.

Shooter Stephen Paddock, who gunned down 58 people, spent several days in his hotel suite with a huge arsenal of weapons.
