China’s tourism authority has issued a public warning against Thai budget carrier Jet Asia Airways after 235 passengers were stranded in Phuket recently due to the unexplained cancellation of a flight to Shenyang.
The agency "recommends passengers choose this airline with caution."
It also urged travel agencies to only book flights through ‘qualified suppliers.’
Bangkok based Jet Asia Airways operates six aircraft to 20 destinations.
Some Chinese travel agencies are reluctant to use newer, unproved airlines, despite cheaper fares.
"China’s biggest travel agencies seldom have cooperation with these low-cost carriers because we need to ensure stable and good prices and services for tourists," said Ge Lei, spokesman for China Youth Travel Service.
"We see a growing demand for cheaper air travel in China, but we are still careful when it comes to new budget carriers," he added.
China Youth Travel Service is one of the top three retail agencies in the country.
