Travel Republic’s website crashed on Monday due to a sudden surge in hits after England’s World Cup defeat.
The company said it was taken by surprise at a sudden rise in hits following England’s 4-1 defeat to Germany, but got its website up and running again within a few minutes.
Managing director Kane Pirie said: “It is as if the whole country needs a holiday to recover from a disastrous World Cup campaign.
“The top destination is Spain, so perhaps long suffering England fans intend to adopt a new country in the hope of cup glory. It looks like our only option.”
Meanwhile, UK accommodation website iknow-uk said enquiries began to rise within hours of the final whistle being blown in Bloemfontein.
Across all of its websites, hits rose by 30% on Monday, compared with Sunday.
Managing director Marcus Simmons said: “We began to see hits across all of our websites rise from the minute that England crashed out of the World Cup on Sunday.
