Monday, 22 Jan, 2019 0

For world-class arts and culture, rock and roll and all-star sports experiences, take a look at Cleveland, Ohio. The Midwest lake-front city has plenty to offer in 2019:

Getting There

Icelandair will return in May 2019 for its second season of four times weekly service from London Gatwick and Heathrow via Reykjavik to Cleveland.

Rock and Roll

Pay Homage to Music’s Masters at the Redesigned Rock & Roll Hall of Fame: In 2018, the world’s only Rock & Roll Hall of Fame debuted an entire floor of the museum devoted to rock ‘n’ roll’s greatest contributors, which includes a redesigned space honouring each inductee, an interactive "Voice Your Choice" area where fans can share their nominations and new Inductee Jukeboxes. Plus, the new Power of Rock Experience gives visitors a front row seat to performances from 25 years of Induction Ceremonies.

Newly opened in July 2018, Part of the Machine: Rock & Pinball showcases rock-themed, playable pinball machines combined with historic merchandise and artefacts. Inside the exhibit guests will find machines featuring icons like KISS, Guns ‘n’ Roses, Alice Cooper, Dolly Parton, The Who and Elton John. Visitors can even play all the machines on display for a small fee.

Stella’s Music Club, Cleveland’s newest music venue. reinforces the city’s reputation as the home of rock ‘n’ roll. Stella’s Music Club, located in the heart of Downtown, offers visitors a state-of-the-art listening experience with back-to-back bands and artists playing on studio-quality sound equipment.

All-Star Baseball

Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game Returns to Cleveland: From July 5-9, 2019 the Cleveland Indians will host the 2019 MLB All-Star Game at the recently renovated Progressive Field. Having hosted the Midsummer Classic more than any other city, Cleveland is ready to welcome fans for a week of activities celebrating America’s favourite pastime, including the Home Run Derby and All-Star Game FanFest. A core part of the Cleveland experience, professional sports – baseball, basketball, American football and hockey – are played throughout the year in Downtown Cleveland.

Arts and Culture

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland (MoCa) will present a self-titled exhibition from Lee Mingwei (March 22-July 28, 2019), which will feature four distinct projects designed to enchant and engage audiences with interactive experiences

Lake-front

The Tall Ships Return on Lake Erie: Tall Ships America sails into town July 11-14, 2019, bringing a fleet of large sailing vessels to the Cleveland port. Visitors can welcome the ships and experience the rich maritime heritage that they represent at a lakefront festival featuring on-board tours, meet-and-greets with the crew and live music and entertainment.

Eating and Drinking

Cleveland’s award-winning dining and drinking scene is a big attraction for visitors. At Ohio City Galley, a restaurant incubator and food hall that opened in October 2018, diners enjoy craft cocktails from a communal bar as four aspiring chef-owners test out their culinary concepts.

Delicious and creatively-decorated, beer-infused doughnuts draw the crowds to Brewnuts, which opened in 2017.

Northeast Ohio’s craft beer scene, which dates to the founding of Great Lakes Brewing Co. in 1988, encompasses more than 60 breweries – with 22 of those in the City of Cleveland alone. Whether it’s a historic chandlery built in 1863 or a former car dealership that’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places, many brewers have taken old-school facilities and infused them with new life as bustling breweries.

Several Cleveland breweries brought home medals from the 2018 Great American Beer Festival, including a gold medal for Masthead Brewing Co.’s Midwest Red IPA, a 10th consecutive medal for Fat Head’s Brewery’s Midnight Moonlight and a gold medal for Market Garden Brewery’s Nano-OG Lager.
