The Sydney Morning Herald says that Jamaican police are hunting thieves who stole a white sandy beach.
Hundreds of tons of sand – or about 500 truckloads – have disappeared from outside a planned resort at Coral Spring beach, the BBC reports.
The discovery was made in July, but no arrests have been made yet, the BBC said.
Detectives suspect the thieves could be other hotel operators, as the presence of a beach adds significant value to nearby hotels.
Police were carrying out forensic tests on beaches along the Jamaican coast to see if any matched the stolen sand, the BBC said.
Jamaican police deputy commissioner Mark Shields said it was a “very complex investigation”.
