Why the world needs vaccine passports
China just launched a vaccine certificate system domestically, and the EU is likely to outline details of a proposed ‘Digital Green Pass’ in the coming days. Then there are the airline-focused digital health apps, and other countries have decided to go it alone.
That means a lot of different systems with potentially different criteria making true seamless international travel problematic. To get the world moving again, perhaps there is no other solution other than a standardized vaccine passport.
How about a government-run green passport in America? A US green pass might also persuade countries still barring American visitors to admit those who’ve been vaccinated. Despite privacy and other ethical issues, there is a consensus that a vaccine passport system is not only needed but inevitable.
