A hotel worker was found dead in a downtown Atlanta hotel after being trapped inside the hotel’s walk-in freezer overnight.
The body of a female kitchen worker was discovered in the freezer of the Westin Peachtree Plaza shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday, and may have been stuck inside since early evening on Monday, police said, citing hotel surveillance video.
She was named as Carolyn Robinson, aged 61.
"It appears that there was some type of mechanism to allow anyone who was inside to be able to exit," Atlanta police Lt. Charles Hampton said.
"Right now there does not appear to be any foul play," he said.
The US Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
An autopsy will be carried out to see if there was an existing medical condition which may have hampered attempts to exit the freezer.
The hotel released a statement saying: We are working closely with the authorities in their investigation, and we are providing whatever support that we can for her family."
