The wreckage of Air Algerie flight AH5017 from Burkina Faso to Algeria has been found in Mali.
The flight disappeared from radar shortly after take-off with 116 people on board yesterday.
Officials say passengers comprised 50 French passengers, 24 from Burkino Faso, eight Lebanese, six Algerians, five Canadians, four Germans, two from Luxembourg, one Malian, one Belgian, one from Cameroon, one Nigerian, one Romanian, and six so far unidentified passengers.
The six crew members – two pilots and four stewards – were all Spanish.
According to the BBC, contact was lost about 50 minutes after take-off from Ouagadougou.
Reports say the weather had been bad overnight, but Accuweather said the thunderstorms were not particularly violent.
The plane is operated by Air Algerie but chartered from Spanish airline Swiftair.
A statement on Swiftair’s website said the flight had taken off from Burkina Faso at 01.17am local time and was due to land in Algiers at 05.10am but did not arrive.
