Yahoo! revamps travel portal

Yahoo! has re-launched its travel portal Yahoo! Travel in the UK after revamps in the US.

It is inviting advertisers to check out the new-look site, which now offers them the chance to:

− run takeovers on many more pages than before
− capture a greater audience thanks to increased search engine optimisation
− align the advertising experience for consumers within all the web pages
− position their brand in a more social and engaged environment.

Tracey Cheffey, Yahoo!’s commercial director of Travel, said: “The new site is really engaging for users and is simpler to navigate and we know that this will make people spend longer on the site and visit us more often.”

She said the new site focuses more on quality content including advice, reviews and photos, while an in-house editorial team produces bespoke and informative travel content.

Current partners include Expedia, Lonely Planet, and Flickr.

Yahoo! claims an average 45,000 people visit Yahoo! Travel every day.

It said according to ComScore in January 2011, traffic to the site has increased by 72% month on month to 945,000 unique visitors – an increase of 573,000 since January 2010.

The new website will also be going live in France, Germany, Spain and Italy throughout spring and early summer.
