Youngsters on short breaks are taking short cuts, says Post Office
Young Brits are taking more short breaks than ever before but nearly a quarter are not taking adequate travel insurance, according to research by the Post Office.
According to the latest Post Office figures, 73% of 18-24 year olds are planning to take more than one holiday this year compared to 59% cent last year.
The research found more than 1.5 million 18-24 year olds plan to take at least one short break this year, but 22% say they wouldn’t bother taking out insurance.
Older travellers are more cautious with just 12% of 45-54 year olds travelling uninsured.
Head of travel services Hugh Stacey said: “Short breaks appeal to younger jetsetters who have the freedom and cash to escape for a spontaneous weekend away.
“But it’s worrying to see how many are overlooking what is a holiday essential. Only 14% of all short break policies sold by the Post Office last year were purchased by 18-24 year olds, the majority being bought by older age groups.”
