ABTA’s head of public affairs Stephen D’Alfonso has kicked off the political party conference season by taking part in a discussion about aviation policy and the value of leisure travel at the Liberal Democrat Party Conference in Glasgow last Monday.

D’Alfonso said: "The party conferences are a chance for us to engage with MPs and grass-roots political supporters of the three main parties to share the views of ABTA Members as they debate and discuss their parties’ policy options.

"As we approach elections in 2015 and with manifestos taking shape, now is the time to make our case for the industry.

"It is essential that we make the case to ensure the travel industry has the right support for growth, reminding politicians of the key role that travel plays in creating jobs and boosting the UK economy."

Over the coming weeks ABTA’s Public Affairs team will also attend the Labour and Conservative Conferences in Brighton and Manchester respectively.

The team will focus on transport and travel’s role as a catalyst for growth and jobs as well as the on-going campaign against current levels of Air Passenger Duty.
