ABTA saw a 51% rise in new members in the six months following the collapse of XL Leisure, compared to the same period the year before.
From July to December 2008, 44 new members joined the association.
Of these, nine were travel agents and tour operators combined, eight were travel agents and the remainder tour operators.
“We have also had a significant increase in the number of inquiries from consumers checking to see if an agent or operator is an ABTA member,†said head of communications Casia Zajac.
