Air India shifting some London flights to Heathrow

A month after the deadly air crash, Air India has announced a revised schedule for its Ahmedabad to London flights.

The flag carrier will shift the Ahmedabad to London Gatwick service to Heathrow.

This takes effect on a temporary basis from August 1 to September 30.

The service will be reduced from five weekly flights to Gatwick, to three to Heathrow.

It comes as Air India partially restores its long-haul flight schedules, which were downsized following the crash.

A Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed moments after takeoff at Ahmedabad, killing all but one aboard.

The airline says it is targeting early October for a full resumption of its flight schedule.

The airline has been doing checks of Boeing jets following the preliminary crash reports findings suggested a fuel cutoff anomaly may have been a factor in the crash.

“The ‘Safety Pause’ enabled Air India to perform additional precautionary checks on its Boeing 787 aircraft as well as accommodating longer flying times arising from airspace closures over Pakistan and the Middle East,” the airline said.

“The partial resumption will see restoration of some frequencies from 1 August, relative to July, with full restoration planned from 1 October 2025.”
